Gear Noise Analysis

Summary

Gear noise, so called gear whine, is a continuous and relatively pure tone noise which primarily consists of 1st and 2nd order frequency of gear meshing force. In case of passenger vehicle, the gear noise is a pain for passengers even though it is low noise level since the noise is generated in rather high frequency range where the background noise is low.

The phenomenon is quite complicated and it is practical to simulate the problem applying step by step approach stated below.

The salient features of the gear noise simulation providing by ESTECH are as follows.

1) Create high accuracy computer simulation model correlating to data from artificial excitation as well as operational tests, which enables to do design studies.

2) Study designs of transmission case geometry like thickness of gear box and ribs to optimize its vibration response applying optimization function of MSC Nastran, which can be simulate radiation noise as well.

3) Create virtual high accuracy shafting simulation models of bearing suspension and predicting contact area on hub and sleeve by nonlinear simulation.

4) Transfer the gear noise simulation technology to client's engineers through tailor made training project.
