Vehicle Steering Shimmy Analysis
Summary
The phenomenon is categorized in the following two different phenomena. One is a brake shimmy caused by an imbalance of braking forces generated by uneven attrition of brake disk in most situations and the other is an unbalance shimmy caused by a rotational imbalance of a tire with a road wheel.
In both cases, the suspension characteristics such as natural frequency and vibrational transmission characteristics such as nonlinearity of excitation force dependency are substantial factors.
Recently, new factors of an electrically-operated power steering and hydraulic rubber suspension bush to increase its damping characteristics have to be included in the simulation model, which make the simulation and design more difficult.
The company has a substantial knowhow and expertise for both physical test as and CAE modeling/analysis technologies.
